“The Genealogy Center Online” December 13, 2017 presented by Curt B. Witcher – Free Educational Genealogy Program

Get an up-close-and-personal look at The Genealogy Center’s website. From the more than 3M free searchable records to some of the best licensed databases, the site has much to offer. Tips for effective use will be shared as well as ways to contribute your data.

Curt B. Witcher is the Senior Manager of Special Collections at the Allen County Public Library and in that capacity manages the widely acclaimed Genealogy Center as well as the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection of Abraham Lincoln related research materials. He is in his thirty-eighth year with ACPL. In 2016, the Indiana Lieutenant governor presented Curt with the Hoosier Hospitality Award and the Dallas Genealogical Society awarded him the Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions to the genealogical community on a national level.

Our website has been twelve years in the making and aims to promote the work of our Society and to bring a variety of useful Allen County research sources to your fingertips. Learn about our goals, needs, collections, and strategies for searching.

Adam J. Barrone, in addition to being the webmaster for our ACGSI website, is supervisor of the ACPL Historical Genealogy Research Center which produces the PERSI index and fulfills research and copy requests received by the Genealogy Center. He has been into genealogy since the age of ten and has written several books.

“Resources for Researchers: Today and Tomorrow” October 11, 2017 presented by Curt B. Witcher – Free Educational Genealogy Program

Hear about new materials, print, and virtual, in The Genealogy Center as well as shifting strategies for enhancing access to family and local history resources wherever they may be. Knowing about the resources available and how to access them will be the focus.

Curt B. “Introduction to DNA” September 13, 2017 presented by Sara Allen – Free Educational Genealogy Program

Learn about DNA testing for genealogy including the differences in the various types of tests and testing companies. Learn about typical results and how they assist in genealogical research.

Sara Allen is a Reference Librarian in The Genealogy Center at Allen County Public Library. She is the DNA administrator for the Mitchell surname project. She has completed the Advanced Genetic Genealogy course with CeCe Moore.
